Bangladesh offers to provide more manpower to Saudi Arabia

President Prof Iajuddin Ahmed Thursday said Bangladesh was ready to provide more skilled and unskilled manpower to Saudi Arabia for fulfilling the demand of the labour market of the oil-rich country, reports UNB.

He also said Saudi Arabia could import pharmaceutical products and medicines and explore the possibility of joint-venture investment in boosting Bangladesh’s readymade garment sector that would also benefit the Saudi investors.  

He made the suggestions when the newly appointed Saudi Ambassador to Bangladesh, Dr Abdullah Bin Naser Al Busairi, presented his credentials to the president at Bangabhaban.

During the meeting, the president expressed his happiness at the present brotherly bilateral relations between Bangladesh and Saudi Arabia and said, “Dhaka attaches great importance to her relations with Riyadh.”

He pointed out ample potential of cooperation between the two countries which remained to be explored to further strengthen the existing ties.

He expressed the confidence that the existing bilateral relations between two brotherly countries would reach a new height during the ambassador’s tenure.

The president expressed his gratitude to the Royal Kingdom for employing and hosting around 1.7 million Bangladeshi workers who are contributing to the economic development of both Bangladesh and Saudi Arabia.

Expressing his satisfaction over the present trade and economic relations between the two counties, he expressed the hope that the bilateral ties would be developed further for mutual benefit.

Professor Iajuddin tendered his thanks and gratitude to Custodian of Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah and the government of Saudi Arabia for the magnanimous assistance and generous support to the people affected in cyclone Sidr and floods recently and the cyclone in 1991.

He also stated that Saudi Arabia had always stood beside Bangladesh, particularly when it faced devastation by natural disaster and calamity.

The Saudi envoy sought the President’s cooperation in discharging his duties in Bangladesh.

He also expressed a strong hope that the relations between Dhaka and Riyadh would be further cemented in the days to come. The new ambassador, who worked as a diplomat at the Saudi Embassy in Dhaka in 1988, also praised the people of Bangladesh for their hospitality, courage and patience.

He also saw huge potential of Bangladesh and expressed the hope that the country would achieve its aspired development “soon”.

Secretary of the President’s Office Md Sirajul Islam, Military Secretary to the President Major General Mohammad Ruhul Amin, Foreign Secretary Touhid Hosain and President’s Press Secretary Abdul Awal Howlader were present.
